Everything for the pour, in one yard

Whether you're a concretor pouring a house slab in Armstrong Creek or a homeowner putting in a new driveway in Torquay, we stock the reinforcement, membrane and finishing products for the job. Mesh sheets are awkward to move, so our crane truck can deliver them straight to site.

Before the pour

  • Black plastic, 200 micron, laid under the slab as a moisture barrier.
  • Mesh in SL72, SL82 or SL92, with trench mesh for footings and thickenings.
  • Bar chairs in 25mm, 40mm and 55mm to hold the mesh at the correct cover.
  • Tie wire and nips to join and trim the sheets.
  • Deformed bar in N12, N16 and N20, cut to length in store.

Which mesh for which job

SL72 is common for paths and light pads. SL82 is the usual choice for residential driveways, garage floors and house slabs. SL92 is used where the engineer calls for heavier reinforcement. Always follow your engineer's or council's specification.

How many sheets of mesh?

Each 6m x 2.4m sheet is 14.4m², but sheets overlap at the edges. As a rough guide, allow about 12.5m² of coverage per sheet, then round up.

Example: a driveway 12m long and 3.5m wide is 42m².

42m² ÷ 12.5m² = 3.4, so allow 4 sheets. Call us with your plans and we'll check it before you order.

Finishing

For exposed aggregate, use surface retarder straight after placing. Once the concrete has cured, clean or etch with hydrochloric acid as required and finish with a penetrating or acrylic sealer. We also stock trowels, knee boards, brooms and cutting blades.

Common questions

What mesh do I need for a residential driveway?
SL82 is the most common choice, but always follow your engineer's or council's specification. Bring your plans in and we'll match the mesh to them.
How many bar chairs do I need?
It depends on the mesh and the slab, but chairs are typically spaced so the mesh can't sag when walked on during the pour. Tell us your slab size and we'll recommend a quantity.
Can you deliver mesh sheets?
Yes. Mesh goes out on our crane truck across the Surf Coast, Geelong, Armstrong Creek and the Bellarine. See delivery areas.
